Thank you for organizing the visit by the PGPR Malaysian Chapter to the Greenville Compost Yard last Saturday, 19 September 2026
It was a meaningful opportunity for us to share our practical experience in horticultural waste recycling and composting while learning from fellow members with expertise in agriculture, horticulture, soil science, microbiology, biotechnology, biofertilizers, and research.
I believe the real strength of PGPR lies in its ability to connect research, industry, and practical application. For industry practitioners, it provides a valuable platform to learn from researchers and technology developers. At the same time, such engagement allows researchers to gain a deeper understanding of real-world operational challenges and identify opportunities to translate research, innovation, and technology into practical, commercially viable solutions.
Although composting and the use of organic soil amendments are well established, there is still much that we can learn from one another. Our discussions during the visit highlighted the potential of integrating recycled organic resources, beneficial microorganisms, and biofertilizer technologies to improve the way we manage soils and plant health. Such collaboration could create new opportunities for more sustainable practices across agriculture, horticulture, landscape management, and urban farming.
I see great potential for PGPR Malaysia to serve as an even stronger bridge between research and industry—bringing together people from different disciplines to connect, collaborate, exchange knowledge, test ideas, and ultimately transform research into practical solutions that benefit both industry and the environment.
For Greenville, the visit was also a valuable reminder that horticultural waste recycling should not be viewed simply as waste management. With the right knowledge, science, and collaboration, these organic resources can be transformed into useful materials that contribute to healthier soils, more sustainable landscapes and agriculture, and a more circular use of resources.
